Tagisan ng Talino 2012

Once again, STI Santa Rosa convened the public and private high schools all over Laguna for the 9th Tagisan ng Talino. This annual event is divided into three main competitions: the Academics composed of Stand up and Deliver, Essay Does It, IT Skills, Think Quest and Culinary arts contests; the Cultural competitions with Solo Singing Idol and Hataw Sayaw; and the Social competitions with the Mr. and Ms. STI Teen Idol and Faculty Hataw Sayaw.
The first part of TNT 2012 was held at STI Santa Rosa campus last January 17 where 19 schools participated in different contests. This aims to showcase the academic quality of the students per school and inspire them to achieve excellence in various disciplines and applications.
The academic competition formally started with an opening program at the del Carmen hall where Sir Tony del Carmen, CEO of STI Santa Rosa, give his warm welcome address and Ms. Mariegen Leosala, DepEd ICT Supervisor, delivered her message. After the presentation of competing schools, which was done by Ma'am Gelay Malijan, the briefing for each contest was done in their respective contest areas.
The Stand up and Deliver, Essay Does It, IT Skills contests were done simultaneously in different venues in the morning while the Culinary Arts ran for the whole day and Think Quest was held in the afternoon at del Carmen hall. After the equally challenging moments for each event, winners were announced during the closing ceremony where Canossa High School emerged as the Champion for the Academic competitions.
This significant event would not be possible without the relentless effort of the organizing committee, faculty members, staff and students of STI-Santa Rosa. Special mention to the Admission personnel, to our Dean and the department heads, faculty assigned to facilitate the contests, the STInt staffers and the PAM club for the documentation. Of course, this whole event was realized through our CEO and COO, Sir Tony and Sir Bien del Carmen. (JMTD)

Culinary Arts
Once again, STI Santa Rosa hosted one of the most anticipated events of the year, the Culinary Arts Competition, last January 17 as part of the annual Tagisan ng Talino to recognize the potentials of high school students in culinary field.
Nineteen participants from both private and public schools all over Laguna gathered together for this event. The culinary competition was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. After the briefing session, presentation of the participants and their respective coaches was done. It was followed by the review of the competition mechanics and introduction of the judges by Ms. Cathy Sebastian, the emcee.
Each contestant was challenged to show off their skills in cooking for 2.5 hours, reinventing the ingredients of tilapia with coconut milk for the morning groups and the chicken and bagoong ingredients for the afternoon teams. The entries were judged according to its palatability, originality of recipe and aesthetic appeal. Winners were determined by the board of judges, composed of Ms. Mariel Dinagco, Ms Karen Estanislao and Ms. Rosemarie Sendon. Finally, the teams who suit their taste buds were as follows:

Essay Does It
Essay contenders do it well!
Following shortly the opening ceremony, the contestants were ushered to the contest area were Sir Oman Sarmiento, the facilitator, welcomed them. He also reviewed the mechanics and introduced the board of judges. At exactly 10am, the topic was disclosed and contestants started to organize their thoughts. They made sure that each paragraph is unified and coherent as it is anchored on the theme: "The Youth as Catalyst for Positive Change".
Each contest piece is judged according to its originality and communication, content and writing mechanics. After the hard judging stint, top three winners were chosen by the board of judges composed of Ma'am Gelay Malijan, Ma'am Maylyn Ocampo and Ma'am Jonna Delgaco.
During the awarding ceremony, it was Maila de Leon of Balibago National High School who won 3rd place; Bianca Camile Lavina of Cabuyao National High School bagged the 2nd place and Jellou Mae Infante of Canossa High School was declared champion.
Indeed, this competition not only provides students with the opportunity to express their ideas but also, it exhibits the students' writing prowess at a young age. (JMTD)

IT Skills
IT skills on the go
Seventeen participants from various schools exhibited their skills in computer operations. After three hours, the judges composed of Mr. Francis Alfelor, Ms. Rachelle Andal, Ms. Sheryl De los Santos, and Mr. Romy Celedenio determined the winners. They are as follows: Jeanette Lampitoc and Claudine Loria of Bigaa National High School got the 3rd place; Jason Montesa and Kim Aldrin Mendoza of Sta. Rosa Science and Technology High School won 2nd place and Joshua Rico and Patricia Albano of Canossa High School bagged the 1st place. In totality, this event bears significant mark for these aspiring IT professionals. (Jane Deinla)

Stand Up & Deliver
TNT Participants Deliver Impressive Stands
Stationed at the del Carmen hall, Stand up and Deliver contestants took a firm stand on the topic, "The Filipino Youth Amidst Political Uncertainty". Each participant was given 2 and a half minutes to gather up their thoughts and showcase fluency and confidence in their speech. The board of judges composed of Mrs. Susan Gonzales, Mrs. Yay Pante, Mr. Enzo Icasiano determined the winner for this event. These are: Irish Ann Montano of Cabuyao National High School for the 3rd place; Roselle Eloise Bunayog of Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School got the 2nd place and Lillian Sherry Du of Canossa High School was declared champion.
The event was very successful in visualizing the thought and motivating the students as future leaders. (Meica Manzano and Mike Espejo)

Think Quest
Questers Think Thrice
This Quiz Bee is divided to three rounds with a twist dubbed as "Think Twice". As the first round (Once and For All) round ended, Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School led the game with 10 points. In round 2 called "Double the Fun" round, questions were a bit harder but still Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School ranked first. Participants braved to win the final round, the "Triple Treat" round, where they showed off wider knowledge on different categories.
Out of 15 competing teams, Cabuyao National High School finished third after winning the tie-breaking question against Canossa High School. The second place went to Colegio de Santa Rosa De Lima and Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School consistently led the game and declared champion.
At the end game, students not just showcased their academic excellence but also build friendship and teamwork. Most importantly, the winners put another feather to the cap of their respective schools. (Rod Joseph Dimla)
